If you know where to look, you can find some great deals at Publix.  Here are a few ideas on how to save money when shopping at Publix:

Double Coupons

Publix will “double” the value of a manufacturer coupon (up to $.50 face value).  If given the choice to use a $.50 or a $.75 coupon at Publix, save your $.75 coupon for another store.  The $.50 coupon will give you the greatest return, since you’ll save $1 total with the doubling.

Buy One, Get One Free

Publix frequently has “Buy One, Get One Free” deals on popular items.  These sales can lead to tremendous savings if you combine them with coupons.  Keep your eye on coupons where you have to buy multiples, and use them in this situation.

Note: Our Publix’s cash registers let you pay half-price if you only buy one (instead of two) of the “Buy One, Get One Free” items.  Not all Publix stores work that way, so you may want to do a price check on a single item that is part of a “Buy One, Get One Free” offer to see what price rings up. 

Clearance Rack

The clearance section is one of the best places to find terrific deals at Publix.  New items appear (and disappear!) on an almost daily basis.  The best thing is that you can use coupons when purchasing things on clearance.  I have found items like children’s toothpaste, toys, and large packs of Pampers diapers marked down to rock bottom prices on the clearance racks.

Baby Club 

Joining the Publix Baby Club is a fantastic way to save money if you have a little one on the way (or already here!).  It’s designed for parents who have children under the age of two and easy to join.  Just fill out a card at the store and mail it in, or sign up online.  I think it is better to join the Baby Club before your child is born, so Publix can send you coupons to celebrate the birth of your child.  The coupons are for really great items in my opinion.  Who wouldn’t want free baby shampoo or $1 off any dairy item?

Publix Baby Club members also receive a free copy of the American Academy for Pediatrics’ book Caring for Your Baby and Young Child.

Free Antibiotics

Publix Pharmacy offers free antibiotics (applicable to specific brands) to customers who bring their qualified prescriptions to the pharmacy.  Saving the full-price cost, or even the cost of a co-pay, can add up to substantial savings, especially if an illness runs through your household.

Greenwise Products

Anyone who has ever shopped for organic products knows that they can be pretty pricy.  Publix has their own line of organic products, called GreenWise Market, that are priced significantly lower than most organic brands without compromised quality.  You can find GreenWise products sprinkled throughout the store in almost every department.

Publix Magazines

Sign up online to receive Publix’s FamilyStyle and GreenWise Market magazines.  Each magazine specializes in a different topic (family fun, food, etc.) and there are usually coupons inside that can be used at Publix stores.  Sometimes the magazines can also be found at the front of the store, where you would find the weekly sales ads.
