When You Get Tired of Couponing….
Couponing can be exhausting. It’s not that it’s physically taxing – unless you count “scissor blisters” as a form of overwork – it’s the mental aspect of trying to clip, organize and use coupons on your shopping trips each and every week that can make people give up.
So what do you do when you think you’ve had enough?
- Take a break. Place your coupon organizer in the closet and shut the door. Put your Sunday newspaper’s coupons in a box or envelope and set them in there, too. It’s amazing how much your outlook can change when you take a week off.
- Utilize your “stockpile” at home. Make dinners using meats you have stored in the freezer and canned vegetables from your shelves. Give the kids pantry snacks like raisins, pretzels, cookies and applesauce. If you’re only going to the store to buy fresh items, like milk and eggs, it takes some pressure off.
- Ask for help. No, not like therapy, but help from spouses and kids to cut coupons and file them. Make it a game and have fun doing it.
- Only cut coupons for products you use. Sometimes cutting every coupon from an insert can be tiring. Look through and figure out what you and your household use on a regular basis and only file those in your organizer. You can always put the leftover inserts into a box in case you want them later.
- Know that you’re not alone. Ok, so now it’s kind of sounding like therapy, but seriously, know that you are not a failure at couponing just because you’re tired of doing it. You’re normal.
